The game was initially released in 2007, but has been updated multiple times until 2014.
There are also various new options available, including an option called 'FHIM Resist', which allows the loser of a match to continue fighting even after their life bar has been depleted. Every character (including bosses) also has an Animality, a Friendship, a Babality, and a Brutality. In addition, multiple Fatalities have been created for every single character, with most characters having a minimum of three Fatalities while some have up to seven. The game adds nearly every version of every character from the 2D Mortal Kombat games note with the exception of the MK3 version of Noob Saibot, a shadowy Kano as well as most of the stages. Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a ROM Hack of the Sega Genesis port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 made by a Russian hacker known as Kabal_MK.
